SMBs, or small and medium-sized enterprises, are the foundation of the world economy. They also depend on technology to succeed. This blog examines the most important technological developments impacting SMBs and how businesses might prosper in the AI era’s hyperconnected world.

Leading Technology Trends Impacting SMBs

SMBs are being impacted by four major themes.

The first is the constantly increasing demand for internet bandwidth. As more devices connect to Wi-Fi networks and more services, such as cloud, SaaS, and AI tools, are used, connectivity demands are continuously increasing.

The second is the requirement to guarantee business uptime and continued operations. SMBs strive to prevent having clients visit their physical or virtual establishment only to discover that their internet connection is unavailable.

The threat of cyberattacks comes in third. According to Check Point Research, SMB firms saw an average of 180 weekly cyberattack attempts (per organization) during the first five months of 2025, a 61% increase over the same period in 2024. Compared to enterprise networks, where the number of attacks rose by 37%, this increase is much greater. Stronger security is crucial for SMBs since they have fewer resources to withstand a cyberattack.

The widespread use of AI tools comes in fourth. AI is probably used by a wide range of professionals, from jewelers to service organizations, but not always by your local cafe, hair salon, or dentist. There is a chance that someone will reveal private information.
